River Mile 38

When the owners of the River Mile 38 Brewing Co wanted to rebrand, they knew it had to preserve the local community’s fascination in local myth and legends (some say if you stare out into Cathlamet Bay,where the brewery rests, you might see a mermaid!) With a little imagination and a dash of nostalgia, we freshened up their existing logo of their mascot, the RV38 Mermaid.

Here’s how we did it. Their stated goal was to make the logo more “catchy”,or clearly identifiable. By simplifying the mermaid design, we made it instantly recognizable. A few variations of this mermaid to ‘get the ‘ball rolling.’

The owners couldn’t pick a favorite, so we developed all three:

Finally, we produced versions of the three logos for any kind of background: light, mid-tone, dark.

And here is the logo in a web and social media environment:

You can’t say ‘beer logo re-design’ without saying ‘we need new labels!’ So that’s what we did, and in keeping with the cryptozoological theme, we crammed as many creepy crawly, wild, cultural and fun characters as we could. The illustrations are all hand-drawn. Fun fact: Cathlamet Washington has it’s own ‘Loch Ness’ Monster called ‘Rocky.’
